Troubled Paper Misrepresents McCain Statement
The financially troubled daily the Boston Globe drastically misrepresented Sen. John McCain’s words about his own experience on economic issues in its lead editorial attacking the presumptive Republican presidential nominee this morning.
“John McCain acknowledged that he didn't know much about economics a few weeks ago ...” begins the inaccurate editorial.
The truth is a bit more nuanced, however. McCain’s actual statement, spoken to reporters aboard the Straight Talk Express in December was, "I know a lot less about economics than I do about military and foreign policy issues.”
The Globe’s misrepresentation is seen as another example by a left-leaning newspaper to put partisanship ahead of honesty and high ethics in journalism. The Globe’s parent paper the New York Times for example ran a poorly-sourced and widely-panned story recently alleging Sen. McCain carried on an illicit affair with a lobbyist eight years ago. Several newspapers declined to run the Times’ story.
The Globe is in serious financial trouble. Circulation numbers and advertising revenues have been in sharp decline for several years.
