Republican Joe Kenney is going to run against Gov. Lynch later this year. It is a fight that he says he is in for, his party is in for, and that they need to win.

Outlining his campaign plan at the New Hampshire Republican State Committee Meeting this past weekend, he argued that New Hampshire needs to elect him to office to prevent Governor Lynch and the Democratic house from turning the state into a northern copy of Massachusetts. A slogan that he wants to “keep New Hampshire- New Hampshire” seems to represent his platform’s central theme.

Kenney went on the offensive in the short speech, attacking the sitting Governor saying that “John Lynch is a weak leader. He’s a guy you want running a birthday party, not the state of New Hampshire. He’s the out-of-touch millionaire governor who doesn’t know the value of a dollar. He’s the guy who has his scripts faxed up to him from Massachusetts… He’s the Jimmy Carter of our time.”

The candidate highlighted what he saw as some of the key problems with Governor Lynch’s tenure, “I want to ask you, did you ever think New Hampshire that you’d see our parental rights being taken away? Did you ever think that you would see two men kissing after a civil union ceremony on the front page of the newspaper? Did you ever think that you would see a half a billion dollar increase in spending?”

The crowd was largely supportive of Kenney in his brief speech, laughing at his attacks against Governor Lynch and shouting in agreement with his disappointments.

The enormously popular Governor Lynch does not yet seem threatened by Kenney. At the State’s Democratic Party Convention the day before, he was applauded time and time again for all of the legislature and direction he has given the state. With approval ratings over 70%, it appears that the entire state is largely cheering Lynch on and that Kenney has an upEverest battle to fight.
