Iraq War More Popular than Bush in Granite State

How unpopular is President George W. Bush in New Hampshire? Less popular than the Iraq War but more popular than an income tax, according to a new University of New Hampshire poll.
President Bush’s approval rating in New Hampshire is 27%. Sixty-five percent have an unfavorable view of the president.
By contrast 40% have a favorable view of the US invasion of Iraq, up a hair since February.
But Mr. Bush still has more support than an income tax does. According to a separately released set of data, only twenty percent of Granite Staters view an income tax as a budget deficit solution “closest to their position.” Thirty-seven percent chose legalized gambling. Twenty-one percent chose a sales tax. Ten percent chose cutting state spending. Only six percent wanted higher property taxes.
According to the UNH Survey Center, “[T]hese findings are based on the latest Granite State Poll, conducted by the University of New Hampshire Survey Center. Five hundred (500) randomly selected New Hampshire adults were interviewed by telephone between April 25 and April 30, 2008. The margin of sampling error for the survey is +/-4.4 percent.”
