The post claims that it isn’t the millions of dollars of his wealth that he has spent on campaign ads that has boosted his poll numbers, but rather his message. He even goes so far as to champion his Chevy Suburban in an attempt to appear humble, but forgets to mention his private plane and multi-million doallar car collection.

But Republican Congressional hopeful Sean Mahoney does want people to go onto his website and vote for Democratic incumbent Carol Shea-Porter’s most “laugh out loud” comment.

Mahoney’s homepage has been taken over by a poll called LOL Carol in which users are asked to pick the “most outrageous” comment from four videos.

The comments range from the fairly innocuous assertion that President Obama’s health care bill will reduce the deficit, a remark that is backed up by the Congressional Budget Office but which the crowd seems skeptical of, to a bizarre story the Congresswoman told about female members of Congress plotting in the ladies room to send the male members of Congress home to get the health care bill passed.

Republican Senate candidate Bill Binnie “defended Arizona’s law requiring officers to question suspected illegal immigra[nts] about their status,” during a debate at St. Anselm College last week, according to NECN.

But at a second debate on Thursday Binnie came out against the law, reports New Hampshire Union Leader’s Clynton Namuo. And when his views were not well received, the famously hot-tempered millionaire became “agitated”:

Bill Binnie got less applause for his less conservative views. He was the only one to oppose a recently passed immigration law in Arizona that would allow police officers to ask people for proof of citizenship.

“We lost something for that,” he said to scattered applause. “We are less than we were before we had it. We have given up some of our life, liberty and pursuit of happiness as a result of that law.”

Binnie was also dinged when he said he supported the separation of church and state. One of the debate’s moderators asked him where in the Constitution it says separation of church and state.

When he couldn’t say where, Binnie became agitated.

“Let’s be clear about this: I’m not a lawyer,” he said. “I know how to create thousands and thousands of jobs.”

He added: “You want a legal question, I call a lawyer. I’m not a lawyer.”

Democratic Rep. Carol Shea-Porter (NH-01) chastised a supporter at a recent town hall meeting for referring to opponents of President Barack Obama’s new health care law as “teabaggers.” But Shea-Porter has defiantly refused to apologize for having used the term herself in the past.

Carol Shea-Porter

The questioner, who later identified herself as a public school teacher, asked Shea-Porter how she can get the truth out “with teabaggers and Fox News and that kind of thing” pushing “negative information.”

Shea-Porter responded by correcting the woman.

“First, let me say that we don’t use that expression,” Shea-Porter said. “Tea partiers. Tea partiers.”

But Shea-Porter has in fact called tea partiers “teabaggers.” Last August she claimed “teabaggers” were following her around with video cameras. At the time, the Portsmouth Republican City Committee demanded an apology from Shea-Porter, but she declined.

“I’m not going to apologize for using a phrase people in the media, including Neil Cavuto on Fox News and CBS News, have used,” Shea-Porter fired back.

NowHampshire.com contacted Shea-Porter’s office and granted her another opportunity to apologize, but she declined.

The term “teabagger” carries a sexual connotation and Democrats often use it to ridicule political conservatives.

Shea-Porter has received a hostile welcome in virtually every town she has visited since voting to pass the President Obama’s health care reform bill into law. The new law remains unpopular with a majority of Granite Staters.

A recent poll showed exactly half of all first district voters have a negative view of Shea-Porter.

New Hampshire Democrats are engaged in a statewide search for liberal activists willing to attend so-called tea parties on Thursday and carry signs expressing racist or fringe sentiments, a Democratic source with knowledge of the effort tells NowHampshire.com.

According to the source, who sought anonymity for fear of reprisals, the Dems’ last minute scramble reflects a growing obsession among party leaders that they need to discredit the tea party movement soon or it will overwhelm them come the November election.

Former Democratic State Party Chairman Kathy Sullivan is heading up the search, the source said. Sullivan has been calling and e-mailing liberal activists trying to get them to attend tea parties in different parts of the state and hold signs denying the authenticity of President Barack Obama’s birth certificate and make racially disparaging comments to reporters.

“This is Kathy’s [Sullivan] project,” the source told NowHampshire.com. “She is absolutely obsessed with painting the tea party people as racists.”

Similar “crash the tea party” efforts are taking place throughout the country on Tax Day.

If she pulls it off, this won’t be the first time Sullivan has endeavored to manufacture a racist controversy regarding the tea party movement. Last month Sullivan and other Democratic leaders attempted to portray a “white pride” rally in Concord held by a Massachusetts-based white supremacist organization as a tea party. Sullivan was forced to retract her bogus accusation.

Nor would this maneuver be a radical departure from other stunts the party has engaged in recently. Around Easter the Democrats sent someone dressed in a bunny costume to the Republican State Committee headquarters. The stunt was widely panned, though thinly covered, and some internet wags speculated Sullivan herself was inside the suit (judge for yourself.)

Sullivan has also been making herself a bit of a nuisance in Manchester. She has been attending meetings of the Board of Mayor and Aldermen to glower at Mayor Ted Gatsas.

UPDATE: A denial from Kathy Sullivan.

UPDATE: Is it starting? A reader sends in the below picture allegedly from the Boston Tea Party event earlier today:

National Democrats have made clear they believe the strategy of blaming unpopular Republican former-President George W. Bush still has some political mileage as they head toward the November elections. But that strategy may have hit a brick wall in Alton, NH this week.

Democratic Rep. Carol Shea-Porter (NH-01) faced a hostile crowd at an Alton town hall event on health care. When Shea-Porter appeared to blame excessive government spending on the previous administration, the crowd really erupted in anger.

Shea-Porter had to be removed from a 2005 Bush town hall by two police officers.

In recent weeks it has become clear that health care reform legislation could spell the quick end of the Democrats’ control of Washington D.C.

From Massachusetts to Nevada, polls are showing anger with an overreaching majority on this and a host of other issues. At times like these, Democrats more than ever need to hold on to their base. Unfortunately, for Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid (D-NV), even that is proving difficult.

Reid, who is struggling to avoid being the Tom Daschle of 2010, has been trailing badly in most every poll no matter his opponent. Today, a Workforce Fairness Institute (WFI) survey shows that his support for yet another Democratic campaign promise, Card Check, is compounding his problems back home.

“While union bosses in Washington, D.C. tout the importance of passing the job-killing Employee ‘Forced’ Choice Act, few union households are familiar with the proposal, much less support it. Once union members hear more about EFCA and what it would do, solid majorities oppose it,” said Katie Packer, executive director of the Workforce Fairness Institute, in a statement.

The poll, conducted by Public Opinion Strategies, found 66 percent of union households oppose changing the bargaining process in unionization and 77 percent of union households oppose a government arbitrator having the final say in determining contract terms – both of which the Employee Free Choice Act would do, according to the WFI.

Relatedly, the poll surveyed 350 Nevada union households on their opinions of Harry Reid, who has carried the water for President Obama on this issue, and found that 57% of them would rather elect a new Senator than vote to reelect Reid and 43% have a strongly unfavorable view of Reid’s job performance.

More frightening for Reid, this poll was conducted prior to the revelation of his racial remarks concerning then Senator Obama prior to the 2008 campaign.

Former state Attorney General and Republican candidate for US Senate Kelly Ayotte today released a web video that turns Democratic Rep. Paul Hodes’ (NH-02) words against him.

The Ayotte video samples one of Hodes’ own web videos to position the Democrat frontrunner as an agent of the status quo.

In the video, Hodes stares into the camera and asserts America is “moving in the right direct.” Team Ayotte then helpfully reminds Rep. Hodes that the economy has lost 3.5 million jobs since he voted for the stimulus, that the national debt is $11.9 trillion and the budget deficit is around $1.4 trillion.

“Paul Hodes is moving in the wrong direction,” reads the final frame of the video.

“Paul Hodes must be spending too much time in Washington if he thinks things are going in the right direction for New Hampshire and our country,” said Brooks Kochvar Kelly Ayotte’s campaign manager. “Since Paul Hodes voted for the stimulus, our country has lost 3.5 million jobs, unemployment has gone from 8.1 to 9.5%, and since Paul Hodes was elected to Congress four years ago the deficit has tripled, and our national debt is now a staggering $11.9 trillion.”
