Ayotte calls “Baloney” on Hodes hot dog ad

Kelly Ayotte went up with a new spot today poking fun at Paul Hodes’ recent ad comparing Washington to a hot dog eating contest and promising to end the pork. Predictably, Ayotte is targeting Hodes’ conveniently timed reinvention of himself as a “fiscal conservative.” Humorous political ads are always risky, but when a candidate is enjoying a comfortable 10-15 point lead in the polls, he or she can afford to have a little fun.

Video and transcript below:

AYOTTE: Politics needs more laugh.

And Paul Hodes commercials are funny.

HODES AD: You deserve a Senator who’s a real fiscal conservative.

AYOTTE: Paul became a fiscal conservative about twenty minutes ago.

ANNOUNCER: Right, Hodes voted for Obamacare, the failed stimulus, and the auto bailouts.

And he wants to continue raising taxes.

AYOTTE: But you know Paul’s worst joke?

ANNOUNCER: Hodes voted with Nancy Pelosi 94% of the time.

AYOTTE: I’m Kelly Ayotte and I approve this message because I don’t support political pork or bologna.
