Did Kathy Sullivan run political protection for sister’s Manchester payout?

Ryan Williams of the New Hampshire Republican State Committee has some questions about Kathy Sullivan’s sister’s budget-busting payout in Manchester:

Ducharme said Sullivan intends to resign from the district. Manchester Superintendent of Schools Thomas Brennan said yesterday he has not received a letter of resignation from Sullivan but would not say whether he thought one was forthcoming.

The NHGOP has demanded Sullivan give up the money.

“That $253,000 should be used to fund city schools instead of paying off a politically connected hack,” said NHGOP Communications Director Ryan Williams in a news release issued yesterday. “This severance package must be revoked immediately and Grace Sullivan should return the money to Manchester’s children.”

Williams also questioned whether Sullivan’s political connections influenced the school board’s decision. Sullivan’s sister is Kathy Sullivan, the former New Hampshire Democrat Party Chairwoman.

School committee member Thomas Katsiantonis, one of the Democrats on the board named in the NHGOP release, said that last Thursday’s vote had nothing to do with politics.

“It wasn’t along party lines,” said Katsiantonis.

According to a school board source, the $253,000 package covers two years of salary and benefits, 90 days accumulated sick leave and a $7,000 severance.

Sources tell NowHampshire.com that securing this political payout is why Kathy Sullivan can been seen skulking in the corners of almost every meeting of the Board of Mayor of Alderman, glowering at Mayor Ted Gatsas and furiously writing notes.
