State Dems launch false attacks on Ayotte

The New Hampshire Democratic Party launched a hard hitting attack on Republican Senate hopeful Kelly Ayotte this morning for holding an “event with tea party extremists,” Dick Armey and FreedomWorks this afternoon.

“The farther right we look, the more new friends Kelly Ayotte seems to be making in Washington,” said Emily Browne, Press Secretary for the New Hampshire Democratic Party in a press release this morning.

There’s only one problem. Ayotte has never met with Dick Armey and FreedomWorks and has no plans to.

We contacted Democratic Chairman Ray Buckley for a clarification, but as of this posting he has not responded.

The Ayotte camp was only too ready to whack back.

“Paul Hodes and the Democrats just can’t seem to get their facts straight. Their claims of Kelly’s meeting are about as factual as Paul Hodes’ claim that his trillion dollar health care bill is deficit neutral,” said Brooks Kochvar Ayotte’s Campaign Manager.

“Hodes and the Democrats are desperate, and continue to launch their false attacks because they know Kelly Ayotte will beat Paul Hodes,” Kochvar continued.

Curiously, this is the second time the Democrats have falsely accused Ayotte of meeting with tea party organizers, signaling perhaps and over eagerness on their part to paint Ayotte as an “extremist.”

In August, Democratic Rep. Carol Shea-Porter (NH-01) accused Ayotte of meeting with people whom she called “tea baggers” after she bumped into Ayotte in the women’s bathroom of a Portsmouth hotel. In fact, Ayotte was giving a speech to Republicans in the hotel and the so-called “tea baggers” were across town waiting for Shea-Porter to arrive at a different event.

  1. NH says:

There ARE no ‘DC Tea Party ‘Organizers…’ The tea party movement is grassroots and no one has been appointed as a leader. If Ayotte were to meet with tea partiers it would be in NH…and she isn’t.

FreedomWorks and Dick Armey or any other group do not direct the tea party, especially not in NH.
