Porter and others are elected to exercise judgment. If her grasp of basic economics is so flawed that she could not see before the vote that tax-payer funded make-work jobs are not stimulus for the economy as a whole (and actually quite damaging to it), then she shouldn’t be put in authority over tax expenditures in the future. That’s up to her voters to decide of course, but she is clearly illiterate in matters of the economy. For her to now pull a Gilda Radner and say “Never Mind” is no answer. $787 billion of the taxpayer’s money is gone, while small businesses withhold hiring until they see the tax bill to come from Washington’s profligate spending.

There was absolutely nothing about the stimulus package that was going to create any number of meaningful jobs. This was a no-brainer from the beginning. New Hampshire voters would do well to remember that next election.
