Shea-Porter begins walk-back on stimulus, will other vulnerable Dems follow?

In February, upon voting for the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act, Dem. Rep. Carol Shea-Porter (NH-01) said, “Our goal with the stimulus is to reduce unemployment rates. … This will happen because the stimulus money will be used for building infrastructure and this will create jobs in New Hampshire.”

But in the wake of news that the stimulus bill has created very few jobs at all, the vulnerable House Democrat is quickly dialing back her support for the measure:

For some reason, voters seem to think that people have to be smart to be chosen by the two main political parties to run for Congress. This woman certainly disproves that.

  2. Biden promised sunshine? Man, if there’s one thing this Administration can’t face, it’s the light of day…

Porter and others are elected to exercise judgment. If her grasp of basic economics is so flawed that she could not see before the vote that tax-payer funded make-work jobs are not stimulus for the economy as a whole (and actually quite damaging to it), then she shouldn’t be put in authority over tax expenditures in the future. That’s up to her voters to decide of course, but she is clearly illiterate in matters of the economy. For her to now pull a Gilda Radner and say “Never Mind” is no answer. $787 billion of the taxpayer’s money is gone, while small businesses withhold hiring until they see the tax bill to come from Washington’s profligate spending.

There was absolutely nothing about the stimulus package that was going to create any number of meaningful jobs. This was a no-brainer from the beginning. New Hampshire voters would do well to remember that next election.

Oh sure, the stimulus “worked” in that it stimulated a butt-load of Donk-friendly interest groups and fat cats.

So, Shea-Porter, thanks much for the way-too-late mea culpa, but my money says you’ll still be t.o.a.s.t. in November 2010.

I seem to remember Joe Biden reiterated promises of sunshine (perhaps excessive) and free pie about eight days ago. When you see Biden walking back you will know the buck is reaching it’s final destination. If it were Hillary in there the whole catastrophe would be under the bus right now.

Perhaps if she had read the bill going forward, she would not need to be walking backwards. Transient pet projects do not an economy make.
