Nashua hospitals want reform, reduced costs

Nashua’s two hospitals endorse health care reform, but warn that any public insurance plan must decrease costs, otherwise they won’t have the funding to provide the same level of services.

The top executives of Southern New Hampshire Medical Center and St. Joseph Hospital welcome federal legislation that would provide coverage to thousands of Americans who lack insurance.

But the executives say that if the many people who now have private insurance jump to a public option because it is more attractive, such a shift could drastically reduce their hospitals’ revenue.
