Rep. Carol Shea-Porter lashed out at South Carolina Republican Congressman Joe Wilson for his outburst before a joint session of Congress last week and at Republicans in general for vocally opposing President Barack Obama’s health reform initiative while speaking at the Strafford County Democratic Party Picnic this weekend.
“They were behaving in a way we never behave,” Shea-Porter told the enthusiastic group of party faithful.
Shea-Porter claimed Democrats never interrupted President George W. Bush while he was addressing Congress.
“We sat there quietly and politely because that’s what we owe the President of the United States,” she said.
This is not true.
Democratic members of Congress lustily booed President Bush during his 2005 State of the Union Address.
What’s more, Shea-Porter herself once had to be forcibly removed from a Bush speaking engagement in Portsmouth, NH for causing disruptions and wearing a shirt that read “Turn Your Back on Bush.”
Prior to that, Shea-Porter was a permanent fixture at then-incumbent Republican Congressman Jeb Bradley’s town hall meetings where she regularly disrupted the constituent events to criticize America’s war effort. She actually boasted of this activity during her 2006 campaign for Congress.
Shea-Porter has made a series of incorrect and sometimes bizarre statements in recent weeks. She has stated, for example, “many of my constituents would love to wait in line for medical care.” She justifies the House bill to overhaul America’s health care system by saying, “the Constitution did not cover everything.” She has called opponents to health reform “teabaggers” and even falsely accused former Attorney General Kelly Ayotte of conspiring with them against her.
Recent polls show Shea-Porter slipping dramatically in the face of a tough challenge from Manchester’s Republican Mayor Frank Guinta.
Lets see. First: Carol was speaking about HER times in Congress. She was elected in 2006, your video is from 2005. You know what a sad attempt that is you have just made. Just like your little quote from her on health care. Why not post the whole quote and let your readers make a decision on their own on what she REALLY said? As for the Bush thing, she stood up and turned her back peacefully, wearing a shirt. Show your readers ANY evidence that what she did was close to what you are insinuating.
Still waiting for your better ideas for health care in America.. Will be posting hours of Frank Guinta’s blank stares soon…. Be ready.
Man, I wish I had the pleasure of voting her out in 2010 but I’m in the wrong district.
i’m guessing that many of her constituents will love to wait in line to vote her out of office.
