Shea-Porter Instructs Security to Remove a Former Police Officer from Town Hall

August 30, 2009 by Staff Reporter

In four short years Carol Shea-Porter has evolved from a rabble-rousing, town hall disrupting anti-war activist who once had to be forcibly removed from a President George Bush event in Portsmouth to a Member of Congress who instructed armed security guards to remove a frustrated voter from her own town hall event in Manchester on Saturday.

In the appended video, Shea-Porter can be seen instructing security to remove a man for standing to ask a question without a ticket. Shea-Porter previously held a lottery to determine who could ask questions. She can also be heard taunting the man on his way out by saying, “I do hope the movie theater can be a little quieter for you.”

NowHampshire.com has learned that the gentlemen Shea-Porter removed, Carl Tomanelli from Londonderry, is a retired New York City patrolman.

Among the press and the public, Shea-Porter’s abrasiveness, once a hallmark of her putative independence, is now seen as boorish out-of-touchness.

“Why does this have to be so hard,” asks reporter James Pindell of NHPoliticalReport.com.

“She has been getting such a pounding over not holding town hall meetings this week that it is beginning to get weird, especially because she is in the district,” Pindell writes.

In recent weeks, Shea-Porter has become, in the words of one Democratic operative who asked to remain anonymous, “unhinged.”

This week she derisively referred to opponents of health reform as “tea-baggers” in front of a crowd of liberal activists. She also accused former Attorney General Kelly Ayotte of colluding with the so-called “tea-baggers” after she bumped into her randomly at a hotel bathroom in Portsmouth.

Ayotte is running against Democrat Rep. Paul Hodes (NH-02) for the Senate, not Shea-Porter and was delivering a speech at the hotel, not protesting Shea-Porter.

During a radio program last week, Shea-Porter waved off a hostile question about the constitutionality of the health reform bill she supports because, “The Constitution did not cover everything.” Her response to the caller was grossly inapt. She compared Congress’ efforts to establish a so-called government option for health coverage to the City of Manchester establishing a police force.

“The irony is, of course, that Shea-Porter used to be a ‘tea-bagger’ on the left,” writes Nashua Telegraph columnist Kevin Landrigan. “She stalked then-congressman Jeb Bradley at town hall-style meetings the 1st District Republican incumbent held throughout his district.”

Four years ago Carol Shea-Porter protested at the State House alongside people dressed as Nazis while accusing the federal government of trying “to brand us like sheep.” On Saturday, she disparagingly referred to people who do not trust the same federal government to run our health care system as “these people.”

“We remember when, Carol, do you,” asks Landrigan.

Rep Shea-Porter’s behavior seems extremely odd, given the official state motto of NH: “Live Free or Die”

Cancer is too good for her. Maybe she’ll come down with a good case of syphilis – seems fitting for the whore she seems to have become…

Never vote for an incumbent. The time has come to completely clean out the toilet bowl in Washington, D.C. clogged with Democrats and Republicans. It will take a large plunger about the size of a voting booth in 2010,2012,2014 and 2016, but it can be done.If you are one of our elected officials it might get a little scary, but you should see things from the sidelines for a while. It gives you a whole new perspective.

  7. Dan Woodard says:

Who is the asshole now Rep. Shea-Porter?

  8. Bob Powell says:

Man, this internet is great! A couple of decades ago this story would have had local coverage and maybe, just maybe, a short note in a “wacky news” column in any paper more than a few states away. Now we get the hometown take, along with video so we can make our own judgement. From where I sit down here in Florida, this lady needs to be asking “Want fries with that?” in her next job. Of course, she might have a series of such jobs – she’d probably chew someone out for not accepting her generous offer to super-size it.

  9. pinnie says:

We really need to flush that toilet in washington. They all and I mean all are ruining our country! They r hypocrits and portfolio driven elitists. They have no regard for the american people that actually pay their bills/ Its time for them all to get a real job with real consequences on what they want to put us through. they do not represent me in any way shape or form.

  10. hymie says:

We need to escort out all 435 in the house in 2010 and as many as are up in the Senate. THAT WOULD BE CHANGE YOU CAN BELIEVE IN.

  11. Hey Lady!

Start packing your office. You are officially out of a job!!

    Buh Bye

    Democrats hate democracy.

  13. Sandra says:

I would say to these people and to all American voters…VOTE…do not stay home…these people did not vote for her, I am sure…and it took all this to get us organized into an honest voting block.
The real people of the country are angry…let’s see how many of us get out and vote the next time. We need to boot these people out of office…Kennedy is finally gone, now lets clean up the rest of congress and our so called ‘representatives’.

  14. Amy says:

In the video, she says (rather self-righteously) that she had to attend the $20-per-plate Democratic fundraiser because she does not take money from “corporate PACS’ and “lobbyists.” According to OpenSecrets.org, here is where she gets her money, thousands at a time.

  15. drjohn says:

Democrats hate it their own tactics are used on them successfully.

Let’s post the whole story about Che-Porter in Portsmouth, warts and all — so soon she forgets:

Diane Carman wrote in the April 26, 2005, Denver Post that the “White House keeps insisting that the guy impersonating a Secret Service agent who tossed the so-called Denver Three out of President Bush’s Social Security road show here on March 21 was a nobody, an overzealous Republican Party volunteer, a rogue vigilante bouncer.”

However, Carman wrote, “If that’s true, this guy really gets around. …

“And he was in Portsmouth, N.H., on Feb. 16 when he and another guy dressed to look like a Secret Service agent with a serious weight problem ejected two middle-aged women from a sparsely attended Social Security town meeting there.

“Carol Shea-Porter and Susan Mayer had tickets and were admitted to the event staged in an airplane hangar. They even were allowed to stay through the entire show, despite the fact that they sat near the TV cameras and removed their sweaters to reveal red T-shirts that said, ‘Turn Your Back on Bush.’

“But when they left their seats to join the crowd on the floor as the president left the hangar, two burly guys grabbed them and gave them the bum’s rush.

“‘We were there for the whole event, and they knew darn well that we didn’t disrupt anything,’ said Shea-Porter. ‘We never opened our mouths the whole time.’

“Shea-Porter said they went to the edge of the crowd of people as Bush exited and turned their backs to him in silence. ‘Somebody grabbed me,’ she said. ‘It was really frightening. He said something like: ‘That’s it, you’re out of here. We’ve had enough’.’

“She said she asked him to identify himself. ‘He said, ‘Never mind who I am’.’ …

“The bouncers took the women to a side door and shoved them outside to a spot where several police dogs and police vehicles were parked.

“‘It was like a drunk being thrown out of a bar,’ Shea-Porter said. ‘They tossed us where nobody would have access to us.’”

  19. Dennis says:

What else is new. Liberals are forever horribly illiberal when considering the rights of others. Look at poor Cindy Sheehan who was glorified and publicized when protesting during the Bush administration and is now soundly ignored by the left when Obama is conducting war. The unions support Obamacare for 10 billion reasons, the amount of money guaranteed to prop up union healthcare. Why should taxpayers support union healthcare? Ms. Shea-Porter actions are illustrative of liberal intolerance. The voters of New Hampshire can send her a sound and strong message by defeating her in the upcoming election. Do not forget these kind of actions.

  20. Dr. Dean says:

Shea-Porter’s contempt for the people of NH is part of who she is and fear of the voters drove the behavior to the surface.

It is important to understand that if voters do not follow through by voting her out of office, the contempt she holds will only increase and become more solidified.

  21. Rick S says:

How do worthless people like Shea-Porter get elected in the first place? Please, people of NH, vote this woman out of office in 2010.
