Romney Way out Front among New Hampshire Republicans

Former Massachusetts Gov. Mitt Romney leads four other Republican presidential candidates in New Hampshire in an exclusive Now Hampshire/Populus Research poll to be released on Wednesday.
Romney, who came in second in the 2008 New Hampshire presidential primary, leads all potential candidates with just over 50-percent of Republicans saying they would vote for him if the primary were held today.
Former Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin and former Arkansas Gov. Mike Huckabee are neck-and-neck with almost 17-percent each. Newt Gingrich earned roughly 13-percent. While Minnesota Gov. Tim Pawlenty is supported by 2.7-percent of the Granite State Republicans.
The poll was conducted exclusively for NowHampshire.com by Populus Research of Alexandria, Va. Between August 10th and 11th among 403 likely Republican primary voters. The poll carries a margin of error of 5%.
Mike Dennehy, a veteran of Sen. John McCain’s two campaigns in the Granite State, is not surprised by the result. “Gov. Romney worked very hard here in 2008. He maintains a lot of support.”
“It’s interesting to see the way Palin and Huckabee compete for almost the same voters and end up splitting their support,” Dennehy said.
Dennehy also noted that New Hampshire is an environment that might ultimately embrace someone like Tim Pawlenty of Minnesota or some other candidate who has not yet indicated interest in the Republican nomination.
“New Hampshire loves underdogs,” he said.
I’m sorry, but having recently moved to NH to get away from the insanity of North East liberals, I absolutely will not vote for Romney or Huck. It is Palin or some other dark horse yet to be discovered. Pawlenty? What a joke. We need serious conservative principles and someone who inspires large amounts of people. That is Palin. As another poster has said, the Democrats themselves are scared to hell of this woman, and so is the media, but I repeat myself. Huck is a vain joke, with that dumb glib smile of his. It’s ridiculous. We’ve had enough glibness with Zero in the WH. I’m telling you, NH has got to warm up to Palin. If you really want an underdog, it’s her. She’s loathed and the recipient of thousands of tons of lib media ink deriding her. She is the ultimate antidote to Obama.

If I were a Democratic campaign operative, I would ask this question. “Who would I want to be our parties opponent?”
1) A Pro-ilfe / Pro-Choice / Pro-Life multi-millionaire who made millions of dollars by buying up companies, selling them off and making many people become unemployed in the process. Country-Club Republican who is from the moderate wing of the party. Owner of at least 11 homes
or
2) A genuine Pro-Life, Jefferson-Madison Constitutional Conservative who believs in Less Taxes, Less Spending, Less Government and More Freedom. A person who believes in individual freedom, personal responsibility and the 10th Amendment. Someone who absolutely believes that America is a Judeo-Christian nation.
Choice # 1 describes Romney would make a good Secretary of the Treasury or Director of OMB. HE would be an absolute disaster and would guarantee that Obama is re-elected!
Choice #2 describes Mike Huckabee, Sarah Palin or Haley Barbour. I would support any of these to be the Conservative nominee of the Republican Party.
Reality Check: Republicans loose presidential elections when we nominate moderates: Gerald Ford, Bob Dole and John McCain. We win presidential elections when we nominate conservatives: Ronald Reagan.
God help us all!
If we’re going to have a pretty face, we may as well elect one with a BRAIN, and some CONSERVATIVE PRINCIPLES, such as Sarah Palin.
What happened also is that Thompson stayed in South Carolina to split the conservative vote allowing McCain to take off in Florida. Thompson did this for his senator friend McCain. McCain just didn’t tell it like it is but he’s still better than what’s up there now. My garbage man is smarter than what’s up there now.
Palin, unfortunately was picked by McCain and enjoyed the limelight and the bucks. She quit. So she’s done and I don’t want to was time with her as a presidential candidate.
I like Mike much better. Buy the way if some republican wants to run as a Ross Perot candidate then you like Ross will allow the Democrats to win again and further assault america. So don’t do it. I wouldn’t mind to see that guitar/NRA guy out there. He has strong views and would take a stand.
No matter what republican is picked if you can’t beat the current incumbent then you are plain sorry. The only people that want communism in america are in large part 97% the afro american’s like colin powell. Powell was basically a social promoted affirmative action undeserving general and then as soon as he could he bit the hand that feed him. So don’t pander to blacks just get white women to come back home to their white men and that il doit.
So, who did Mitt have to buy off this time?
Only Palin can beat Obama… or, at least, that’s what the Democrats believe. They don’t attack Huckabee or Romney. Only Palin.
Mitt will have to come around on a few things to be viable, and I believe the so called “assault Weapons” ban will have to be one of them.
While there is no doubt that it was McCain with his utterly pathetic attempt at a campaign and zealous joy at stabbing Conservatives in the back that delivered the anointed one to us. There was one other factor at play, often overlooked, that delivered the hapless McCain to us as The Candidate in the first place.
One fine gentleman in the primary saw fit to deal out the bigotry card over and over again. Good ol’ squirrel eatin’ honest Christian who would never never ever tell a lie, Mike Huckabee. He knew he hadn’t a prayer in hell (a more than appropriate a phrase for this specimen) of victory, but he was very adept at poisoning wells and thereby splitting votes so Romney would be denied and Johnny would win. He made sure that the good ol’ folks knew Romney was not one of “us”. “Don’t Mormons believe that Jesus and the devil are brothers?”, the very meek huckster asked as if he needed guidance on this question of doctrine from the press of all people. His actions during the primary in his effort to destroy a fine man was one of the most disgusting displays I have ever witnessed in my 45 years of following campaigns on this side of the spectrum. This Alleged Christian and preacher dishonored all who follow the faith with his blatant bigotry and refusal to display tolerance for the religious beliefs of others. Hypocrite!
I will never believe that his actions were not at the very least blessed by McCain if not to some degree coordinated with and/or by his campaign. This man is beneath contempt and proved himself to be a despicable person with a severe lack of morals and scruples. Not exactly A list material for any job that would wield power over “the people”.
Fwiw, I am not a Mormon, never have been, don’t wish to be. I have been a Presbyterian all my life. I have chosen, in my life, to judge people on their character, integrity, honesty, and in the political realm, ideology. I personally saw these traits in Romney, with some differences still evident in ideoligical issues, but I believe him to be a decent and honest man in whom I would not hesitate to place my trust. I could Never say that of either McCain or the hypocritical Huckster.
And…Mike, maybe it was you, after all, who some reportedly believe “are brothers with the devil”. I am just basing that on what people have told me about you and what I saw during the ‘08 primary.
I would say that 60% of the American’s would be a better president then what is up there right now. The guy up there now is a tax and spend chicago liberal. he came from a welfare family that depended on your hard work tax dollars so that his mom had adequate food stamps to feed him.
concerning mayor bloomberg. he is the anti-US constitutional mayor. you might not know it but he is a desendent of brittains king george. the same guy that enslaved the colonialist. the american revolution pitched them out but just like some nazi war criminals he is still in the US. so watch out for anyone who wants you disarmed, but remember bloomgerg is a direct disendent of king george the guy we threw out.
If Mitt supports the second amendment and doesn’t talk of any gun ban and talks in his northern dialect and not a southern dialect when addressing the NRA then he has a chance in OHIO. I like Mike Huckabee because he is a hunter and a southern governor. He can connect with the appalachian ohio folks and that is where ohio will be won.
