Ayotte’s Debut: No Cameras, No Questions?

Confusion and mixed signals shroud Republican U.S. Senate candidate Kelly Ayotte’s first campaign appearance in Wolfeboro tonight.

On Sunday the Concord Monitor reported that no video cameras would be allowed at the event at the request of the Winnipesaukee Republicans, not the Ayotte campaign.

NowHampshire.com was able to confirm that this is the rule. In answer to our query as to whether even ABC affiliate WMUR would be permitted to bring a camera into the event, a spokeswoman for the Winnipesaukee Republicans told us, “We would prefer NO cameras.”

“We prefer just the handy old tape recorder and notepad,” she further clarified.

Nevertheless, the New Hampshire Union Leader reports that, according to Harold Parker, also a Winnipesaukee GOP official, WMUR is invited to bring a video camera and only Democratic “trackers” will be barred from the event.

NowHampshire.com has also learned that Mayor Frank Guinta, who is also speaking at the Winnipesaukee Republican Social, has no objection to being videotaped at the event, according to a source close to his first congressional district campaign.

Parker also told the Union Leader that Ayotte will not be taking questions from the crowd, which NowHampshire.com has previously reported.
