1996 Republican gubernatorial nominee and likely senate candidate Ovide Lamontagne stated on Wednesday in a press release that he would oppose the confirmation of Judge Sonia Sotomayor to the U.S. Supreme Court if he were presently serving in the senate.
His potential Republican rival Kelly Ayotte was characteristically silent on the matter. Her campaign did not respond to NowHampshire.com’s request for information. However, Sen. Judd Gregg, who is seen as the guiding hand behind the Ayotte candidacy, voted in favor of Sotomayor’s confirmation today.
Lamontagne cited Sotomayor’s record of “judicial activism” as the chief reason for opposing her in his statement.
