Star Trek Comes to New Hampshire

Long-time fans of the television and movie franchise Star Trek had to squirm in seven years of anticipation for the latest movie based on the program that opened several weeks ago. Luckily for New Hampshire “trekkies” whose thirst for all things sci-fi was not quenched by the recent film, there is more to be enjoyed. Such fans should consider venturing over to the McAuliffe-Shepard Discovery Center in Concord where an exclusive exhibit is taking place that features original Star Trek items on display.

At the exhibit fans can see numerous set props used to film some of the many Star Trek episodes and films. Some pieces on display include a uniform worn by Transporter Chief Janice Rand ( played by actress Grace Lee Whitney) in Star Trek: The Motion Picture (1979) and chairs from the set of Star Trek: The Next Generation (1987-1994).

“Everyone here loves science fiction,” stated Jeanne Tiberius Gerulskis, Executive Director of the McAuliffe-Shepard Discovery Center. “And the amazing technology of Star Trek from medical scanners to communicators gave us all a glimpse of the future.”
Star Trek enthusiasts can visit the Discovery Center to ogle the Star Trek memorabilia, and engage their imaginations as they sit in some of the actual chairs used by Captain Jean Luc Picard and crew.

More information on hours and directions can be found on the McAuliffe-Shepard Discovery Center’s website: www.starhop.com.

  1. If you look hard enough you can find Trekkies all over the globe. The one thing I haven’t discovered yet is the place to actually sell any memorabilia.

A friend of mine has quite a collection and keeps threatening to part with some of it but I think he is just waiting for the right arena and to ensure that the stuff he has goes to the right people. Any ideas willingly accepted.
