ONE Campaign Calls On Senator Gregg

Members from the ONE campaign met with Senator Gregg’s staff yesterday in Portsmouth to discuss the problems of poverty and preventable disease around the world. The advocacy organization has over 10,000 members here in New Hampshire.
“Senator Gregg has a powerful voice in Washington, D.C. and we [ONE members] reached out to him to explain our mission and to ask for his support,” said Michael Castaldo of Dover. 
Tracy Rousse, another member of the ONE campaign that met with the Senator’s staff, drew on his first hand experience in the military and said, “I see investing in things like mosquito nets to prevent malaria, and access to clean water as a national security issue. It’s a no-brainer.”
Senator Gregg and the rest of the Senate are soon set to vote on whether or not to renew funding for the Millennium Challenge Corporation (MCC). The MMC promotes sustainable economic growth in poverty stricken regions across the world with funds appropriated by Congress on a yearly basis. The MCC has programs in countries ranging from Rwanda in Africa to Honduras in Central America. President Obama
“[We] want to see our elected officials follow through on promises made by the United States to the world’s poorest people,” added Castaldo. “We need to stand behind results-focused programs that deliver systemic change by partnering with countries to build their own capacity and reform the own policies to create the conditions necessary for sustainable poverty reduction and long-term economic growth.”
