More A-Roid Allegations

As news started to circulate that A-Rod might be joining the Yankees sooner than expected, another and bigger A-Roid story has taken over.

Remember Selena Roberts? She’s the Sports Illustrated writer that broke the original story back in February that Alex Rodriguez had cheated. Turns out she has more!

Oh A-Roid.

When A-Roid finally and only partially admitted to doping, he admitted only to using them only while with the Texas Rangers in what he called, “a loosey-goosey era.” Rodriguez added that his doping was limited to “twice a month for about six months during the 2001, 2002 and 2003 seasons.”

Details from Roberts’ new book have been leaked with claims that Rodriguez started using steroids in high school and continued to even while a Yankee.

Amongst the many allegations in the book, an unnamed major league player is quoted saying that he saw him with pitcher Kevin Brown and HGH in 2004, two other anonymous Yankees give quotes about him suffering from side effects, a Yankee employee says that there was “a lot of suspicion in the house” about him using them in Yankee Stadium, and there are revelations that his clubhouse nickname was “B—h T—s” in 2005, alluding to his aspects of his 15 pound bulking up during that offseason when many thought he was suffering from gynecomastia, a condition common to steroid users where the pectorals become rounder and fuller.

Look at the saga:

Back in December of 2007 Rodriguez said flat out, “No” when Katie Couric asked you “For the record, have you ever used steroids, human growth hormone or any other performance-enhancing substance?” When she asked him if it ever was even a temptation, he said,

“I’ve never felt overmatched on the baseball field. I’ve always been a very strong, dominant position. And I felt that if I did my work as I’ve done since I was, you know, a rookie back in Seattle, I didn’t have a problem competing at any level. So, no.”

Then Ms. Roberts pinned him with a confirmed positive test. Rodriguez didn’t come forward and you blasted her saying in an ESPN interview,

“Sports Illustrated pays this lady, Selena Roberts, to stalk me. This lady has been thrown out of my apartment in New York City. This lady has five days ago just been thrown out of the University of Miami by police for trespassing. And four days ago, she tried to break into my house, where my girls are up there sleeping, and got cited by the Miami Beach police.”

Then Rodriguez apologized for all of those things he said about her being lies.

Then the slugger kinda-sorta-maybe admitted, but only to a three year stint and said you never used them out of that window, especially not as a Yankee. Your cousin injected you only “twice a month for about six months during the 2001, 2002 and 2003 seasons.”

“I did take a banned substance. And for that, I am very sorry and deeply regretful.”

“It was such a loosey-goosey era… I’m guilty for a lot of things. I’m guilty for being negligent, naive, not asking all the right questions. And to be quite honest, I don’t know exactly what substance I was guilty of using.”

Now these allegations are out. Was that last confession just another “amateur hour?”

The Sox are due to play the Yankees in their brand new stadium on Monday. Imagine the chants when he comes back to Fenway.

Hopefully someday this era will come to an end.
