Schilling Comes to NH for McCain

Curt Schilling took to the stage in October again, but this time in the presidential race rather than in the pennant race. His support of John McCain is well known and this weekend the New England hero made a few stops in New Hampshire to build support for the senator in the final days before the election.

“Other than my father, I’ve never met anybody with more integrity,” Schilling said about McCain at the Wild Rover Pub in Manchester. Earlier in the evening he made an appearance at the Peddler’s Daughter, an Irish restaurant in Nashua.

Last December Schilling made his first appearance with McCain at a town hall meeting in Manchester where he himself faced questions about running against Senator Kerry in Massachusetts.

Schilling talked a little bit of baseball this weekend, but a lot about the character of McCain and why he felt he was the best choice for New Hampshire’s voters. He also addressed what many believe to be a drowning out of McCain by the media in general saying, “the disappointing thing for me right now is all the white noise that’s drowning out the real message.”

Late last year Schilling made his mind up about McCain on the Red Sox WEEI radio show saying, “I gotta go with McCain. I’m not voting party line any more. I’m voting for the guy that I know is going to be the same person four years from now that he was when elected. I need to trust somebody because I don’t agree with anybody’s platform front to back….I need somebody that I can trust to do right by the country and stick to their guns.”

Schilling is milling ideas about pitching again next year even though he didn’t throw a single pitch this year because of injuries. He is thought to be considering a deal similar to that of the one Roger Clemens had last year where he’d come back to pitch for only part of the season on a contending team.
